Tabellara vs RueBaRue: guidebook product or operations platform?
RueBaRue has grown from a digital guestbook into a full guest operations platform for property management teams: SMS automation, work orders, cleaning schedules, and guides as one module among many. Tabellara went the other direction and made the guidebook the entire product. Both choices are defensible. Which one is right depends on whether you are buying a guidebook or an operations department.
| Tabellara | RueBaRue | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A guidebook product: built, designed, and measured for hosts from one property up | A guest operations platform for property management teams; guides are one module beside messaging and operations |
| Pricing | Public and self-serve: a flat $6/mo per guidebook at any count; annual is $54 (three months free). Guest WiFi $6 per network, Guest TV $6 per property with three TVs, or all three at one property for $15 | Not published. Pricing is a personalized quote, reached by scheduling a demo with their sales team |
| Trying it | Build and preview free with no card and no clock; your first published guide, first WiFi network and first TV property are each free for 30 days, no card | 14-day free trial, no card required, self-serve signup, with free onboarding |
| Building the guide | AI writes the whole guide from your Airbnb listing in about a minute, places your photos, and researches local recommendations | Template plus PMS import: property details auto-filled from your PMS, an area guide seeded from Google Places with photos, hours and reviews, an AI writing assistant, then hand editing (RueBaRue estimates 10 minutes to an hour per guide) |
| Design | Six layouts, fifteen themes, custom colors and your logo | One guide layout, branded with your logo and colors |
| Upsells | Quick links to your own booking or checkout pages: every tap counted, no platform fee | Built-in add-on payments: a 4.99% RueBaRue transaction fee plus Stripe processing fees per transaction |
| Messaging | Not a messaging product: your guide answers questions so fewer messages happen | SMS automation, unified inbox, AI chatbot, surveys, and Google review collection |
| Analytics | Page-level: the ten most-read cards at a glance, every visitor session with city, state, device and the QR or deep link they arrived through, searchable, sortable and exportable to CSV, plus a counted tap on every quick link including book-direct | Email capture plus guide-level view stats (when, how often, how long); deeper reporting lives in the Operations module, not page by page |
| Multi-property | Start a new property as a copy of any guide; copy sections or single cards between guides; mark any guide as a template and link its sections, so one edit to house rules or checkout updates every property while each guide keeps its own arrival details and WiFi | A Master Home Guide template shared across all units, with tags to push content to groups of homes; one guide per property |
| Personalized guest links | Reservation-aware links: connect an Airbnb or OwnerRez listing (no PMS required) and every booking gets its own link that greets the guest by name with their dates and party, sent automatically (Airbnb message five minutes after booking, or an OwnerRez template field) and expiring after the stay; the permanent guide link keeps working alongside it | Yes, through a PMS: guest links are tied to the stay and expire after checkout |
| Languages | Automatic translations into 25 languages, included with every guide; guests are offered their own language on arrival | Guides are English-only |
| Minimums and fit | One property, self-serve, five-minute start | PMS integration carries a two-unit minimum (three for Messaging); positioned for teams from 20 to 500+ units |
| Beyond the guidebook | Guest TV: a welcome by name on the television, the guide on screen, a rating from the remote that sends 4 and 5 stars to Google, and every app signed out at checkout, all run by a Guest Journey set once per property. Guest WiFi: a branded sign-in page on your UniFi equipment that captures every guest's email | Work orders, inspections, cleaning and maintenance scheduling, supply inventory, smart lock management |
| Selling extras | Guest Store on every plan: sell early check-in, late check-out, and extras from inside the guide. Guests pay your own Stripe account directly (you are the merchant of record), each item is instant or approve-first on a window you choose, and Tabellara's fee is 2% per completed order | Guest payments for upsells carry a 4.99% transaction fee |
| Earning from local tours | Tick one box and Viator tours near the house appear in the guide's Local Experiences section and on the Guest TV screensaver, each with a code to book; 4% of every booking is paid to you through your own Stripe account | Not a documented feature |
RueBaRue features and fees from ruebarue.com's pricing and product pages as of August 2026; their pricing page lists plans and transaction fees but no prices, which come as a personalized quote through a sales demo. Check their site for current details.
Pricing you can read versus pricing you schedule
Tabellara's price list is public and needs no calculator: a flat $6 a month per guidebook at any portfolio size, $54 a year with three months free. RueBaRue publishes no prices at all: their pricing page lists the plans and the transaction fees, and the number arrives as a personalized quote after a 30-minute sales demo. Neither approach is wrong; quote-based pricing often works out fine for large teams. But if you want to know the cost before you talk to anyone, only one of these has a number on the page.
The guide itself: one minute versus a template and an hour
RueBaRue's guides are genuinely good, with a distinctive strength: Google Places data woven in, so recommendations carry photos, hours, and review scores. They start from a standard template, auto-fill property details from your PMS, offer an AI writing assistant, and then, by RueBaRue's own estimate, take ten minutes to an hour of customizing per guide. Tabellara's AI builder connects to your Airbnb listing through Hospitable and produces the finished guide in about a minute: house manual, WiFi, and rules pulled from the listing, your amenity photos described and placed on the right pages, and researched local restaurants and attractions already mapped. You edit a complete draft instead of customizing a template.
Upsells and the fee math
RueBaRue includes real payment processing for add-ons like early check-in, which is convenient, and costs accordingly: a 4.99% platform fee on each transaction, plus Stripe's processing fees on top. Tabellara's quick links take the opposite bet: the early check-in button, the book-direct button, and any custom link point at pages you already control, every tap is counted in analytics, and no one stands between you and the payment. Roughly five percent plus processing is a fair price for not building a checkout; zero is a better price if you already have one.
Where RueBaRue wins
If your problem is operational, RueBaRue is playing a different sport. SMS automation with a unified team inbox, an AI chatbot answering guest texts, surveys, Google review collection, work orders, inspections, cleaning schedules, and smart lock management, plus a Master Home Guide with tags to push shared content to groups of homes: that is an operations department in software, and hosts running large teams report dramatic reductions in guest calls. Tabellara does none of that. A 100-unit property manager drowning in texts should be talking to RueBaRue, full stop.
Where Tabellara wins
If your problem is the guidebook, the comparison flips. A one-minute AI build against a template and an hour of customizing. Six designed layouts against one. Page-level analytics that show what guests actually read, card by card, with a searchable visitor table and CSV export, against view counts. Automatic translations into 25 guest languages, included, against English-only guides. Transparent self-serve pricing from a single property, no demo call, no unit minimums. Guides that stay at a permanent link, with reservation-aware links of our own when you want them: each booking gets a personal page greeting the guest by name, and it works straight from Airbnb, no PMS required. No transaction fees on your upsell links. And a screen RueBaRue does not have: Tabellara TV, which carries the guide onto the property's television.
The bottom line
RueBaRue is a strong operations platform where the guide is one connected piece; Tabellara is a guidebook company where the guide is the whole point. Teams buying fewer phone calls should demo RueBaRue. Hosts buying a better guidebook can skip the demo entirely: building and previewing on Tabellara is free, and the first draft takes about a minute.
